Live VC herd effect
Posted on: September 20th, 2006We have in Israel a tv show called the sharks, where all kind of entrepreneurs present their inventions to professional investors (one of them is a technology VC) and they either end up with an investment or not during the session.
Anyway, yesterday I was a witness to a live investor herd effect. A potential investment that was spotted enthusiastically by one of the investors, made all the rest of the panel jump on ship without further thoughts. All the “good” reasons they gave prior entrepreneur such as: it is not my domain of expertise, we don’t know the details well, etc… have vanished and gone in a second thanks to the sparkling eyes of the insightful investor.

Talk before you act strategy in the web 2.0 era
Posted on: September 5th, 2006I’ve encountered today a post regarding Microsoft’s Vista contemplations about their pricing and regardless of the specific subject covered in the post, it came to my attention that something has changed.
Before web 2.0 business pattern pf rapid application deployment, Microsoft and few other vendors were using a strategy of talking a lot about upcoming versions of their product for gaining feedback before a real launch (some kind of post product-marketing strategy). Creating a press buzz is easy for Microsoft and it helped them many times to achieve an image of innovators without releasing anything (and many times they have canceled products due to bad feedback or inability to stand up to their promises).
Anyway, now in the web 2.0 era (it feels good to write this phrase:), where innovators publish applications very fast, this strategy being used by Microsoft seems old and broken. In the past where vendors used to release a version once a year in the best case, seeing Microsoft’s announcements was exciting. Now it seems like an old strategy and it mainly emphasizes their delays and not their innovations.

Good to see an Israeli VC that understands Web 2.0
Posted on: September 4th, 2006Yesterday I’ve met Ouriel Ohayoun - the managing partner of a VCs initiative (LGilab) between Israeli Gemini VC and American Lightspeed - and it was a pleasure to see a VC that is actually fluent with what happens in the web 2.0 world. This is his blog.
